Seward is world-renowned as the Alaska Silver Salmon capitol of the world and
plays host to Alaska's largest silver salmon derby each August. In late
June huge schools of Silver Salmon (Coho) begin to make their migratory return
to the waters of Resurrection Bay. From late-June through mid-September
these huge Alaska Salmon schools converge on this region, fattening up on
schools of bait fish before continuing their journey upstream to spawn. It
is commonplace for our guides to chum up huge schools of salmon that "boil" the
water right at the boat.
With a limit of six Silver Salmon per-person, per day, this
fish provides fast and furious light tackle action for anglers of all skill
levels.
Long considered the ultimate prize for Alaskan anglers, the
King Salmon (Chinook) also prowls the waters off of Seward. Alaska King Salmon
are most prevalent in this region from April through June, but are regularly
taken during Silver Salmon trips.
